Things I found Different
Grocery Store
I need anxiety meds to go shopping here!! It seems like everyone knows exactly what they want. I don't know if people just get the same stuff every time or they just grab random items and see how it turns out. It takes me a min in stores where I can read the label.
I noticed I was annoying people for waiting for others to get their item off the shelf. Oh, not here you don't, every man or women for themselves. Going to the store is like being on Supermarket Sweep, Ninja Warrior edition!
Then you get to the check out, oh buddy it gets better. Here you must bring bags or purchase them. We didn't know this the first time going to the store. We get in line and the cashier is ringing our items up and throwing them down to be bagged faster than any human could bag! While telling us we need to go get bags to buy. Say what now, I need to get out of line then figure how many bags I need? Who knows how many bags they'll need? Not this lady, so I guessed. No one was happy with us. Check out is more rushed than just getting groceries.
To say we pissed off a ton of people with in the first few hours of being in Iceland is an understatement!
All people are welcome
It’s very diverse here. I came here not expecting how diverse it would be. I have seen so many different cultures here. There doesn't seem to be any discrimination against any race or culture. LGBTQIA+ community is very supported as well. The PRIDE parade is a community activity here, not just alleys and people within that community. The schools here support kids that identify as gay or transgender. It's refreshing to see people supporting their people!
Shoes?
There are areas that you must take shoes off before entering. Two places we have found so far are entering the locker room at a public pool and schools. Before you enter the locker room you take your shoes off and leave them on a shelf. When the kids get to school they remove shoes and walk around in socks.
I love this because I hate wearing shoes.
